Introduction to Climate Change and Renewable Energy
This three-part educational series introduces students to climate change and renewable energy through engaging, age-appropriate lessons. Students will explore key climate concepts, examine the science and impacts of climate change, and discover real-world solutions—including the role of renewable energy sources like wind and solar.
Climate 1 (Climate Change 101): Covers the difference between climate and weather, the Goldilocks Principle, greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect, carbon dioxide in nature, the rise of CO₂ due to fossil fuels, and the global and local impacts of climate change.
Climate 2 (Solutions Framework): Introduces a structured approach to climate solutions, empowering students to think critically and creatively about ways to address climate change on both individual and collective levels.
Renewable Energy: An introduction to renewable vs. nonrenewable energy, with a focus on solar and wind. Includes a hands-on wind energy activity to reinforce learning through experience.
Program Flexibility:
Choose 1 to 3 sessions to fit your classroom schedule and goals. Optional components can be added to extend learning beyond the classroom and into real-world action.
Duration: Once class period per session (~ 1 hour each)
All climate programs are grant-funded and offered at no cost to your classroom, thanks to support from the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office.
