To ensure a high-quality educational experience, we only work with one class at a time. Programs run 50 minutes unless otherwise noted.
BioBug and Health (1 hour)
Special scheduling only—call 779-1745. Using the Willow Bend BioBug as an example, students will understand the human and environmental health implications of switching to cleaner, greener technology.
Clean and Green
Students will learn to identify common household products that are hazardous to the health of people and earth, and will discover alternative, non-toxic substitutes for common cleaning supplies.
Climate Change (1 hour)
Students will learn about this “hot” topic as we delve into the causes and consequences of climate change.
Erupting Earth
Take a look at different types of volcanoes with an emphasis on northern Arizona.A hands-on activity helps students explore how hot spot volcanoes work. Supported by the National Park Service. Suggested follow-up field trip: Sunset Crater Volcano Tour.
For the Birds
Students are introduced to bird watching and sharpen their listening skills by identifying local bird calls! Suggested follow-up field trip: “For the Birds Field Trip”
Healthy Body, Healthy Earth: Gardening
Students will learn what the health of our soil has to do with the health of our bodies. Suggested follow-up field trip: “Healthy Body, Healthy Earth Field Trip”
Living within your Climate: From Pueblo Times to Modern Times
Sustainable living isn’t a new idea! Learn about sustainability through archaeology, focusing on northern Arizona. Supported by the National Park Service. Suggested follow-up field trip of Flagstaff Area National Monuments.
Midnight Hunters: Owls
Through hands-on activities and props, students will learn the importance of these hunters as well as their unique body adaptations for catching prey. Be aware of potential Native American conflicts.
Ozone: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Students are introduced to our atmosphere, and issues surrounding it including ozone degradation and its effects on us.
Plant Power!
Students will cultivate basic plant identification skills to understand the power of local plants! Suggested follow-up field trip: “Plant Power Field Trip”
Skulls
By using facial patterns, students will identify various local animal skulls. Be aware of potential Native American conflicts.
Starry Skies (1 hour)
Students will understand how the rotation and revolution of the earth affect the stars we see throughout the year. Students will also make their own Flagstaff star chart!
Trash and the Three Rs
Students learn how to reduce waste, reuse materials, and recycle in Flagstaff. Supported by the City of Flagstaff. Suggested follow-up field trip: “Flagstaff Recycling Tour”
